Root

My original idea was to make an illustration of the note from which a chord is built in connection to the root of music without any other thing in it but different kinds of note. I have started but decided that I would finish it later because this is another idea that came out while doing it and, so I started another illustration drawing a woman during the middle age era playing a violin which is my favorite musical instrument and the big note in the background. Still, I have to do something more in it and yet, I am also satisfied with this one. I did this for almost five hours because I cannot make my lines straight especially the chords. I tried a lot of tools in Photoshop. I hope you will like it. p.s. I am dedicating my illustration to all the people in New Orleans and other places that was hit by a storm. I am also sending my hugs to all of you.

Reminds me of the dance band on the Titanic, playing while the ship went down. Never desert the note!

Isay, I am looking and looking, and I can't find what you're saying about lines not straight! Hmmm...Anyway, I like that you chose to focus on roots of music, and I love your old world lady with the violin. The folds in her skirt look great, and I just really like the whole symbolic feel of her standing on the huge note with the mucis floating around her. Very pretty!

Think you've done it very well, it's really difficult to draw a violinist, also the way she stands on the note is nice. Thanks also for you nice comment on my site!

thanks everyone.
hi carla, the lines on the big note was not straight before but was able to figure it out later. what is not straight are the chords in the violin. it is very visible in the original size but not in this one-sorry that i forgot to mention it.

hello marion-i agree that it is hard to draw a violinist, another reason why it took me a long time.

This looks beautiful, Isay ! I especially luv the splashing water droplets at her feet, as if she is playing her violin in the rain of New Orleans.
The flying musical chords in the background space is a lovely touch !

hi steve! it was not intentional-i think subconciously i was really thinking about the disaster in New Orleans when i have started my sketch, only after i have finished it that i began to connect it and found myself thinking how lively, happy and music loving the people of New Orleans.....

I also like this one very much. Interesting take on the theme, lovely colours, and the folds in the skirt are beautiful. This is my favourite illo of yours so far.

I'd been wondering if anyone was going to do "roots" type music for this theme, but your concept is even better beautifully composed. I like the sense of the violinist being at the centre of a world - a stable, grounded figure - surrounded by music, and sharing it outwards. The colour-scheme also works really well - a lovely picture!
