Tranquility
I just finished this drawing this morning. I used colored pencil. Don't you think it fits the topic for this week? You can kindly go back to home later in case I have other ideas....
Sailing is a therapy. It is one of the best cure for stress. I should know because I am married to someone who has a very demanding job connected with a lot of stress. He is also a very good sailor. Sailing makes him calm. I have never seen him so happy everytime he gets the chance to sail which is almost every week. I have sailed with him a couple of times and I can also say that it feels great . It is quite an experience being in the middle of the sea and the only thing you can hear are the waves and the splashing of water in the deck of the boat while lying under the sun. So calm and relaxing.
Well, allow me to introduce to you “Fant”. It is owned and was built by my father in law 57 years ago. It is an original Aage Utzon design-the father of the architect who built the Sydney Opera house. They have used an oak wood for the skeleton, larch for the body, silver spruce for the boom and mast. For the tables, cabinet and the deck –it is made of mahogany and pine wood. My husband and stepchildren are very good in drawing and, I just hope I did some justice in drawing Fant.

Looks very peaceful.
I enjoyed your artwork for this week. I have only been sailing a few times, and if you are the passenger or part of the crew it is as free a feeling as flying!
I love being on boats- don't get the chance often but i always love it when i do.
It looks like a wonderfully enjoyable experience ! Is one sketch for morning and the other one for evening ? I can almost hear the seagulls...
:-)
thousand thanks kay susan, ginger, alison and steve-it would be fun and nice to dream sailling with all of you because i admire all your works. and steve, yup i forgot to mention the singing of the seagulls!
Oh yeah, sailing! When I see your illustration I get all dreamy! I can smell the sea, feel the gentle rolling of the waves, listen to the seagulls...It puts everything in perspective!
I have never done it but no it would be fun! Great idea!
this is a great illustration! i have never been sailing, but have always wanted to try it - seems like, barring wind storms, it would be very tranquil.
Sailing sounds like such a joyful experience, I'd like to try it some day! Great concept for this weeks theme.
you're so right...sailing is fabulous, and that's so incredible that your father actually built the boat...makes you appreciate it so much more. windsurfing is pretty fantastic as well, you feel so free and unencumbered. have you ever tried it? love your illo, you're right, very appropriate!
cheers,
kerry
My step-father always loved sailing as well. You're right; being out on a sail boat is very relaxing. Wonderful illo!
haven't tried windsurfing kerry-i feel so happy everytime i see someone doing it.
i am sure you will Roz, and take emma with you!
thank you allison!
joe, who knows i might see you in your boat one day.
gosh! we should all be in one big boat and we can all talk about every topic we can draw! so much fun....is there anyone else who would like to join! please come!!!!!
Your illustration is very calming and relaxing :)
Oh yes, I can feel wind blowing behind me and I can smell the sea, good remembers !!! thanks
Interesting, Ive never been sailing but also have never heard it descriped as therapy? Tthat is interesting. Ive heard its a lot of hard work. nice illo
When the wind and tides are right, sailing is DEFINITELY tranquil. I'm glad for you that it has been that way more often than not. My 1st husband only wanted to sail in races. Which meant yelling and crewing and close calls and NOT TRANQUILITY. And of course, if there is NO wind, instead of tranquil, it is BORING. Thanks for a lovely image with intriguing ambiguity of what it evokes!
thank you aravis and anonymous!
now it is becoming a dream that we should all come aboard a cruise ship!
it is true rebecca that it is a lot of hardwork but if the person is not an experienced sailor that it becomes stressful. we may look at it at stressful if we don't understand sailing and the sport itself, amd even in races, a normal sport newscaster would be at lost if he is not a sailor himself. i am not an expert and i am just talking as an observer to a lot of sailors and races i have met and seen in the sailing world.
thank you for visiting!
i can relate to what you are saying sultryp...but it is also matter of how one experiences sailing. During races, a lot of yelling and movement takes place because it is some kind or form of a plan that they have to be spontaneous and synchronize with their actions.
how nice of you to drop by!
Have a nice day all of you!
and my thanks to bea, too. lying alone or with a loveone on grassy hill or white sand close to the sea, where we can also see a boat or hear the waves and the seagull can also be a peaceful experience.
Yes, your drawing is very tranquil ... just perfect for the theme. I'd rather be sailing than sitting in this heat.
Boats + clear waters + birds flying + clear skies = zzzzzzzzzzzzz
Very calming indeed!!!
thousand thanks karen, don and michelle.
enjoy the warm weather before it goes away---it has been raining over here nowadays!
Isay, I don't know Fant but I think you've done the yacht justice! Also, pencil is the right choice for this picture and works beautifully. I like the angle you've chosen, with the curve of the sides away from the viewer, and it is tranquil indeed.
coming from you Ian, i am so elated!
